I like how they went to a double shear on the pivot shaft. A friend of mine had the shaft snap off at the bumper, probably from welding heat.

You should be very wary of when told something like that! Converters don't just go bad they are usually destroyed by other malfunctions in the fuel metering

I agree that you should get your codes read before you possibly damage something. A common problem I have read about are the Coil Over Plugs (COP) that go bad
